Summer Vacation!

Summer vacation! Adventures for most of us. No matter where you plan to go, vacation is a time of joy and excitement, but also of stress and even anxiety. Will everything go the way we planned? Are the hotels we've booked really that posh? Did we pack everything we need for the trip? Will the plane arrive on time for us to catch the intercontinental connection? And so on, and so on. 

Plan ahead to avoid stress, but be prepared for anything. A simple unfavorable weather pattern may delay your plane and you may end up stranded for days in Detroit instead of enjoying your Sky Juice under a palm tree in Bahamas. Also consider that your airline may lose your luggage and have a well packed carry on bag that will allow you to get by for a few days. Pack a some underwear, two or three t-shirts, bikini or swim shorts, sandals, hat, pair of jeans and a long sleeve shirt or shawl. You will need some toiletries for the trip. If you are traveling by air, remember that there is a limit for the liquids in you hand luggage. For details contact your airline.

To avoid stress, always arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure and check in for your flight online. Most airlines open their check in 23 hours before departure. 

If you are traveling abroad, check your visa and vaccination requirements to avoid surprises. If you are taking any kind of medication, make sure you have sufficient amount of pills for the duration of your vacation. Bring with you a small first aid kit with some over the counter stuff. You might want to have something on hand to take care of acute diarrhea, indigestion, motion sickness, and cold. A small bottle of good lubricating eye drops for the trip may also be a very good idea.

Wherever you go, always bring a good dose of patience and humor. You will meet people from different cultures and their habits and behaviors may be very different from what you expect. In some places "Mañana" does not necessarily mean "Tomorrow" so patience is essential if you really want to enjoy your time. Remember, you are on vacation and there is no hurry to do anything at all, so relax. Europe in six days or so is a bad idea, but a week in Cancún or Sedona, might be exactly what you need to rest. 

Stay clear out of noon sun to avoid sunburn and drink a lot of water to stay hydrated, but most of all, enjoy your vacation as much as you can!
