Black Friday Shopping Palooza At Jimmo Designs

Wow! Thanksgiving is only three days away! Festive menu planned, turkey in the fridge, relatives on their way from all four corners of the country... As you are making your last preparations for this important family fest, you are probably already keeping an eye on best deals that are being offered all over the town.

The annual ritual of making a run on a favorite store on Black Friday is dreaded by many. Many people prefer to do their shopping online in the comfort of their home, without stress, with a glass of good wine or a cup of hot coffee next to their computer. The deals online are often better than in stores, and one does not have to face the indignity of a fist fight over a toy or a sweater. And there is also the Cyber Monday, and exclusive online affair.

As you are counting your blessings and expressing gratitude for the good things in your life, you are most probably also wondering how to best spend your hard earned money. The gift giving season is around the corner, and like most people, you probably do not have all the gifts ready for giving. Good deals are essential. So are attractive gifts that do not coast more than you are willing to spend.

In preparation for the Holiday Season Jimmo has added new products to the store's catalog. Embroidered Pom Pom Knitted Hats, Kitchen Aprons, and Tree Ornaments, to name only a few. We have also introduced Kids Collection featuring tees for boys and girls.

To make your shopping experience enjoyable we are offering 20% discount starting on Black Friday and ending at midnight on Cyber Monday. Simply type

at checkout to secure the discount. This offer is valid from November 24 till November 27.

Before we go we would love to thank all our customers for their business. We are also grateful to our Facebook friends for their support and encouragement. Also, many thanks to our followers on Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest. No business could survive without the social networking that is so popular nowadays. We hope all of you are going to have a fabulous Thanksgiving.

With grateful hearts, Jim & Dominique

Hurricane Relief And Jimmo's Call To Action

As some of you may know I had a campaign going since September 11 on my Redbubble store. The campaign was announced on Facebook and on Twitter, and was set up for 30 days. I had promised to donate 100% of my proceeds to hurricane relief.

I want to thank those of you who were able to go to the store and help in the effort. You are much appreciated and I hold a special place in my heart for you.

Although we were only able to generate $78.25 in proceeds during that time, each dime is a small treasure and I'm hopeful of it's ability to help.

I am making good on that promise.  As soon as the Redbubble payout comes in I will be forwarding it along to folks who can use it.

I have chosen a charity set up by Antonio Paris who is a Planetary Scientist, Astrophysics Professor, and Combat Veteran, originally from Puerto Rico. His hometown was completely destroyed by the Hurricane Maria and he started a Go Fund Me fundraiser for Puerto Rico. You can still donate money to help out. To visit Antonio's donation page, please click here.

I truly wish we could have done more.

Thank you so much!

Dia de los Muertos, Mexican Folk Art And Jimmo's Sugar Skulls

Jimmo Designs ©2017

Oh, how cultures differ! While losing someone always is a difficult thing, the way people in Central and Southern Mexico go about the death and dying is so much different than in many other parts of the world, most notably in the Western Christian, or more precisely, Catholic, tradition.

Dia de Los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a joyous celebration of the dearly departed and has its origins in pre-Columbisn traditions. It reflects the recognition and acceptance of the natural cycle of life. It is a festival of vibrant colors, delicious foods, art, music, joy, laughter, colorful costumes, and not at all scary looking skulls and skeletons. The celebrations coincide with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day (November 1st) and All Souls' Day (November 2nd).

Jimmo Designs ©2017

It is believed that the gates of open at midnight on October 31st, and  the spirits of all deceased children, the angelitos, are allowed to visit the homes and reunite with their families for the entire day. The spirits of the deceased adults re-join their families on November 2nd. To celebrate these reunions families prepare festive foods and bake large anise and orange scented sweet pan de muerto breads. Home altars are decorated with flowers, candles, fruits, freshly made food and drink. Toys, sweets and cigarettes are often added as well. Folk art skeletons and skulls made of sugar add the final touch to the offerings.

On November 2nd people visit cemeteries. They clean the family graves, have a picnic, listen to music, dance, play cards, meet friends, and tell stories of their dearly departed.

Markets are full of colorful folk art and special candy. You will see calacas (skeletons), Catrina dolls (skull faced dolls in fancy dresses and hats), and of course, claveras or the sugar skulls. Embraced by bikers and tattoo artists, sugar skulls are becoming more and more popular in the mainstream. Fashion designers and jewelry makers are borrowing heavily from the colorful "language" of the Mexican folk art to create their haute couture. Summer Vacation!

Summer vacation! Adventures for most of us. No matter where you plan to go, vacation is a time of joy and excitement, but also of stress and even anxiety. Will everything go the way we planned? Are the hotels we've booked really that posh? Did we pack everything we need for the trip? Will the plane arrive on time for us to catch the intercontinental connection? And so on, and so on.

Plan ahead to avoid stress, but be prepared for anything. A simple unfavorable weather pattern may delay your plane and you may end up stranded for days in Detroit instead of enjoying your Sky Juice under a palm tree in Bahamas. Also consider that your airline may lose your luggage and have a well packed carry on bag that will allow you to get by for a few days. Pack a some underwear, two or three t-shirts, bikini or swim shorts, sandals, hat, pair of jeans and a long sleeve shirt or shawl. You will need some toiletries for the trip. If you are traveling by air, remember that there is a limit for the liquids in you hand luggage. For details contact your airline.

To avoid stress, always arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure and check in for your flight online. Most airlines open their check in 23 hours before departure.

If you are traveling abroad, check your visa and vaccination requirements to avoid surprises. If you are taking any kind of medication, make sure you have sufficient amount of pills for the duration of your vacation. Bring with you a small first aid kit with some over the counter stuff. You might want to have something on hand to take care of acute diarrhea, indigestion, motion sickness, and cold. A small bottle of good lubricating eye drops for the trip may also be a very good idea.

Wherever you go, always bring a good dose of patience and humor. You will meet people from different cultures and their habits and behaviors may be very different from what you expect. In some places "Mañana" does not necessarily mean "Tomorrow" so patience is essential if you really want to enjoy your time. Remember, you are on vacation and there is no hurry to do anything at all, so relax. Europe in six days or so is a bad idea, but a week in Cancún or Sedona, might be exactly what you need to rest.

Stay clear out of noon sun to avoid sunburn and drink a lot of water to stay hydrated, but most of all, enjoy your vacation as much as you can!

Say It With Flowers

Say It With Flowers

There are always flowers for those who want to see them. - Henri Matisse

The culture of flowers seems to be universal and as old as the mankind. Their beauty and scent must have attracted human attention already at the earliest stages of the evolution. Flowers are as much part of nature as they are a part of culture.

Archeological finds show that flowers were used for home decoration, as medicine, in cooking, in various ceremonies, and as a farewell gifts to the deceased. The scent of flowers attracted not only insects. People learned how to extract it and use it as a perfume.

Flowers have always been a favorite subject of painters, fashion designers, and to some degree also writers and poets. Floral designs experienced a revival with the Spring/Summer collections for 2017. Such designers as Marques'Almeida, Chloé, Balenciaga, Dries Van Noten, Erdem, Dolce & Gabbana created elaborate head to toes florals that are meant to find cult followers.

Say it with flowers

Florals are always fashionable and they make beautiful gifts for men and women. To keep up with the current fashion trend, Jimmo has a growing collection of floral designs. There are roses and hydrangeas, stylized lotus flower and colorful flower garlands. There is even a wisteria on a throw pillow...

Say it with flowers

Mother's Day is only a few days away. It is a great occasion to for unusual gifts, but sometimes the simplest gifts are the best: beautiful flower bouquet, breakfast in bed for your mom, or a visit at a whole day spa. Whatever you have to say, say it with flowers.

To make your gift giving a little more fun, Jimmo offers you 15% discount on all items from the Floral Collection. Simply type

at checkout to secure your discount. This offer expires May 16, 2017.

Grow Your Own! - Jimmo's Passion For Gardening

Jimmo's Passionate Gardener T-Shirt and garden tools

Many people believe that there is nothing better to calm your nerves and stimulate your creativity than digging in the dirt and planting seeds. In fact, serious scientific studies were conducted on the relationship between health and gardening.

Scientists found out that gardening
  • reduces stress and anxiety
  • decreases risk of such chronic diseases as heart disease and old age diabetes
  • improves physical agility
  • brings joy and happiness to your life
  • improves cognitive health and keeps your mind sharp
  • helps you relax and sleep better
And, of course, if you are growing vegetables in your garden, gardening improves the way you eat since there is nothing more delicious that freshly plucked tomato or strawberry that you have seen growing.

Jimmo's sweet potatoes and carrots

Next to the incredible health benefits, gardening not only helps you eat better, but also helps you save money. The initial investment you have to make in early spring pays back till late fall, and if you can build a greenhouse, all year round.

The joy of harvesting your own fruits and vegetables cannot be underestimated. It cannot even be described. You have to experience it by yourself.

But what can you do if you do not have a backyard? Big city dwellers have a slightly limiting circumstances. I say slightly, because if you have a balcony or a windowsill, you can grow herbs, lettuce, edible flowers, tomatoes, and even strawberries in containers. Get the best organic seeds you can get, best organic dirt, and start your own container garden. For those who never did any gardening in their lives, there are books explaining how to grow food at home. Take a master gardener class if you can or ask for help at the local farmers' market. Many people who grow food in their backyard are willing to offer tips and guidance.

To celebrate spring and his own passion for gardening Jimmo created the Passionate Gardener Collection that offers beautiful designs for people who love gardening and is going to grow with time, just like the plants in the garden.

April just began and it is not too late for you to start a garden. Enjoy the Spring, grow something and change your life!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Few holidays are as jolly in America as the St. Patrick's Day. The entire Irish diaspora is in high spirits. Shenanigans can begin. If you have ever visited Chicago on this Irish holiday, you could not possibly have missed the electric green color that spills, literally, into the Chicago River. This annual ritual is enjoyed by the denizens of Chicago and Chicago visitors alike.

To celebrate his Irish roots Jimmo designed a trefoil shamrock leaf line that is included in his Just For Fun Collection. The shamrock line offers t-shirts, socks and mugs. These attractive items make perfect gifts for any person of Irish descent and can be enjoyed all year round even if you are not Irish.

Shamrock is a symbol of Ireland. The word shamrock or shamrog is of Gaelic origin and refers to any three leafed green plant. The legend has it that Saint Patric, who was a bishop in early pagan Ireland, supposedly used a trefoil shamrock leaf to explain the concept of the Holy Trinity of the Christian Church. The explanation seemed logical and clear, and so, the Irish accepted Christianity.

This is probably the reason why the Irish revered shamrock throughout the ages, but it must also be said that the trefoil plant called wood sorrel was used as food. The herb pops up in forests and can be foraged. It ads a delicious sour tinge to any salad. Interestingly enough, the trefoil white clover, which isn't sour, wasn't used as food.

The four-leaf clover, on the other hand, tells a very different story. It is called Mary's Shamrock. It is a symbol of luck not only in Ireland. People believe that the leaves of a clover represent hope, faith, and love. God added another leaf for luck, and those who find one such four-leafed clover are indeed very lucky.

14 Tips to Keep Your Graphic Jimmo Shirt Looking Good

Graphic print t-shirts are enjoying their popularity like never before. The are a great way to express your mood, your emotions, you political views and social preferences. Fashion divas, hippies, hipsters, introverts, social workers, and revolutionaries all have one thing in common. They all love cool graphic tees! You don't believe me? Just look around. Even the coolest beatniks are proudly showing off minimalist designs on their black t-shirts.

Taking care of your garment is essential. You have found your favorite t-shirt or two and you want to wear them forever. Many shirts are adorned with complex, elaborate artwork, but once washed, they often look awful. The colors fade, the shirt loses its shape and looks nothing like it did when you first got it.

So, what can be done to retain the print quality?

First of all, you need to understand that your artist designed t-shirt is a work of art. The artist uses a garment like a canvas. However, t-shirts with original artwork painted by an artist directly on them are very rare and extremely expensive. Most artists and designers resort to garment printing methods that are less expensive and more durable than a direct painting. The artwork is often created and stored digitally. You might have heard about direct to garment printing (DTG), heat transfer, and screen printing. Depending on how your graphic shirts are made, the care may differ a bit, but there are a few simple rules to follow.

The garments on which the artwork is printed come with their own care instructions. Unfortunately, if you simply follow these instructions, you might, and probably will, ruin your shirt.

Jimmo shirts are mostly screen printed and to keep them looking great we suggest that you follow our tips religiously.

14 Tips to Keep Your Graphic Jimmo Shirt Looking Good
  1. always wash colors separately
  2. when in doubt, hand wash your precious graphic art t-shirt
  3. always wash your graphic shirt inside out - turning your shirt inside out is essential if you want to protect the artwork
  4. put your graphic tee into an old pillow case or a special laundry bag for delicate fabrics to provide even more protection to the artwork
  5. always wash in cold water - warm or hot water can damage the artwork and make the colors "run"
  6. always use gentle, bio-degradable detergents - harsh detergents may damage the artwork on your t-shirt and are detrimental to the environment
  7. never use bleaches - bleaches will not only damage and fade the artwork, they will also destroy the color of the garment on which the artwork was printed
  8. adding a little ordinary vinegar to the rinsing water cycle of your washing machine may help retain the color; 1-2 tbsp should be sufficient
  9. always remove the stains locally using the most gentle stain removing materials you can get in your store; when in doubt, ask your local laundry and dry-cleaning services or a garment specialist
  10. do not ever tumble-dry your graphic print tee, in any case avoid hot air dryers
  11. dry your shirt lying flat on a drying rack or hang it on a good fitting coat hanger to retain the best shape; using two coat hangers or wrapping a coat hanger with an old towel to build up a holding structure is a good idea, especially for larger size garments
  12. never ever use a hot iron on your graphic print t-shirt as heat will damage the artwork
  13. to get rid of the wrinkles, use the airliner method - hang your t-shirt on a coat hanger in a shower, let a very hot water run and let the steam take care of the wrinkles, or use a special steaming device that irons out delicate fabrics with steam
  14. if you must iron your shirt, always use very law temperature and iron the back of the shirt only; spray some water from a spray bottle to make the ironing easier for you and your shirt; make sure you are not using a hot iron on the artwork!
These simple tips are easy to follow and will help you keep your favorite artist designed t-shirts in good shape for a long time. As sad as it is, nothing lasts forever. Your shirt will eventually get old, but you can always make it last a little longer if you take good care of it.

Celebrating Jimmo's One Year In Business And A Giveaway

Time flies! Jimmo is celebrating his one year in business! Some of you may know that Jimmo's designs first appeared on Amazon in November 2015. After testing the popularity of his artwork, the artist James (Jim) Allmon decided that it was time to establish himself independently from the Amazon. A website was created and a store set up. Jimmo became unstoppable! A Facebook business page, a twitter account and a Pintrest page were created to engage friends and customers on social media.

Jimmo's designs became a brand name and grew in popularity, but since Jimmo's website and Jimmo's Amazon store operate only within the American market, Jimmo decided to open a Redbubble ElJimmo store where his designs are shipped worldwide. It is extremely satisfying to know that someone, say in Australia, can now own a shirt or a pillow designed by Jimmo. This alone feels like celebration.

Jimmo's web based store went into operation on January 28, 2016. The actual one year anniversary coincided with the Chinese New Year, so we decided to move the celebration to February. And here we are! We invite you to celebrate with us.

To make our one year anniversary celebration fun for our friends and customers, Jimmo created a contest and a giveaway. The rules are very simple:
  • Visit Jimmo's Website and find a product you like the most and want to get
  • "Like" Jimmo on Facebook
  • Tell us in a comment section on this blog or on Facebook why you want this particular product
  • You can only enter once
  • You do not have to purchase anything

The contest ends on February 4, 2017, so please hurry. A winner will be picked up by a neutral person not involved in Jimmo's enterprise to make sure that there is no "friendship bias." The announcement will be made the following Monday, February 6. We hope you win!

At the same time we are offering a store wide discount of 15% to all participants of the contest. Use discount code

at checkout to receive 15% off your entire purchase. This offer runs through February 15.

We wish you a lot of fun and good luck!

Happy Year of the Rooster - Celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year with Jimmo

Year of the Fire Rooster greeting card by Jimmo
Join us to celebrate the beginning of the Year of the Fire Rooster!

In Chinese lunar calendar year 2017 is a year of the Fire Rooster. It begins on January 28, 2017 and ends on February 15, 2018.The year has 13 months and has two springs!

Rooster is one of the twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac. In a story recounted by the Chinese Buddhists twelve animals arrived to a feast given by the Buddha. Rooster was the tenth animal to arrive at that feast.

In Chinese astrology zodiac signs are combined with the Five Elements. Each animal sign appears every twelve years, but only every sixty years in each of its elements. The Five Elements: metal, water, wood, fire, and earth determine a special quality of each zodiac sign. The current cycle is dominated by the fire element, hence the Fire Rooster. The Rooster will be back in twelve years, but the next Fire Rooster will appear in 2077!

The Chinese believe that both, the zodiac sign and the element affect destiny and personality of a person born under them. The predictions for the year to come also depend on this unique combination.

In Chinese culture people born under the sign of a rooster are believed to be hardworking, courageous, dutiful, and very resourceful people. They thrive in the company of others and enjoy to be in the center stage. People born in the year of the fire rooster are considered to have a strong sense of duty and responsibility, and are believed to be trustworthy. They make good public servants, teachers, and journalists.

For some reason, the rooster years are not very lucky for the people born in the year of a rooster. Destiny of everybody else in the rooster year depends on their own birth year and how their personal zodiac animal interacts with the rooster. Very complex birth charts are used by an astrologer or geomancer to create individual horoscopes and predict a fortune.

In Chinese astrology rooster is a very auspicious, luck bringing sign that is associated with punctuality, duty, competitiveness, bravery, and prosperity.

feng shui charm for your home

In an ancient esoteric commentary to the Book of Songs dating back to the Later Han Dynasty (25-220 AD) rooster had five virtues: literature, military prowess, courage, benevolence, and trustworthiness. These virtues will determine the quality of the year to come.

We hope that 2017 will be a year of creativity and prosperity for everybody. New energy and fervor (fire) will dominate your actions. If you want to succeed in 2017, you have to be diligent, courageous, and inventive. Like a rooster, you will have to wake up early and do your chores. Put trust in what you already know and embark on a new adventure!

To help you celebrate and stay focused and determined in the Year of the Fire Rooster Jimmo created beautiful Year of the Fire Rooster Collection that can be purchased in our web based Jimmo Store (apparel, mugs, pillows), on Redbubble (apparel, cell phone accessories, wall art, mugs, stationery, home decor), and also on Amazon (graphic print t-shirts).

How to Make Life-Changing New Year's Resolutions - Tips From Jimmo

The beginning of a new year is a perfect time to reflect on our lives and the changes we want or need to make. Every year countless people make New Year’s resolutions with a hope that they will have the strength and motivation to stick to the promises they made to themselves, but only a small percentage actually succeeds. Why?

A New Year’s resolution involves a commitment to a particular project such as change of a habit or a creation of a new one. Such a change is usually interpreted as advantageous and involves behavior modification of some sort.

The term “New Year’s Resolutions” comes from the fact that these commitments normally go into effect on New Year’s Day. Most people assess their physical appearance, their financial status, their career, or relationships. They want to lose weight, exercise more, reduce stress, save more money, spend less, quit smoking, spend more time with their loved ones, travel more, read more books, get a college degree, or improve their professional qualifications. All these New Year’s resolutions are quite ambitious, but unfortunately, more often than not, they are bound to fail. People often fail because they simply do not understand the process of change. One simply cannot start anew with an old mindset. Some deep seated, false or outdated beliefs usually stand in the way to a better, happier and more fulfilled life.

Most of the New Year’s resolutions are abandoned in the first few weeks, if not days, of the New Year as individuals discover that they either cannot follow the self-designed schedules or that their resolutions add stress and frustration to their already stressful lifestyles. Excuses are made up to give a “rational” explanation for procrastination or lack of motivation and self-discipline. In no time people revert to the old routine and remain in their comfort zone.

So, what shall we do if we want to succeed in 2017?

It is very important to understand that change of any kind creates stress. People who are trying to change too many aspects of their lives all at once are inadvertently increasing their stress levels. They put too much pressure on themselves. It is only natural that they give up their resolve quickly since the old routine is less stressful and allows one to “relax” on the laurels of his or her failure. Is there a hope?

Unless you believe in unicorns, you will actually have to work to make your New Year's resolutions work for you. My suggestion would be to pick up one item off the list and commit oneself to it for the first.

I Believe In Unicorns Mug by Jimmo

It is said that a new habit is formed in a period of twenty eight days or so. To succeed, you would need to consequently follow the new pattern of behavior for this period of time to make it a habit. Once a new habit is formed you could move to the next item on your list.
It is much easier to stay motivated if one sees some real progress. The sense of success on the other hand, motivates us to an even greater commitment.

There are probably as many strategies as there are people who tried to implement a major change in their lives. Some strategies are more successful than others, and the degree of success depends on many factors. One’s personal circumstances, mentality, personal beliefs, needs, and experience can sabotage the resolve, for instance.

Every individual is unique, but no one has to feel compelled to reinvent the wheel since there are already some time-tested strategies successfully used by others. Some degree of modification may be necessary to suit your personal needs, but the program should include following steps if you want to succeed:

  • Identify your goal and set a deadline – it is vital to know what one wants to achieve and why it is important to reach that goal. Vague expressions like “I want to lose weight” or “I want to save more money” are rather useless as they do not set a precise goal. They may delineate the direction one wishes to take, but they do not pose any concrete challenge. Instead, you should write down how much weight you wish to lose by June, or how much money you wish to save for your Summer vacation. It is important to set a deadline because otherwise you will self-sabotage your own goal.
  • Do some research and create a plan of action – find out what to do to change a particular behavior and what benefits such a change will have for you. For instance, if you want to lose weight, find out what effects particular foods have on the human body; what are your caloric needs; how to increase metabolism, etc. This will give you an idea about the challenges you may have to face and what has to be done if you want to achieve your goal. This knowledge will not only empower you, but will help you devise a step-by-step plan.
  • Create realistic schedule – do not expect the results to come over night. Remember that success is a gradual process and plan your strategy accordingly. For instance, if you want to save money, set your goal in relation to your income and monthly expenses. You may wish to save $25 or $250 per week and nothing stops you from saving more, but if you set your goal too high, you may realize that it is impossible to keep up with the growing cost of living, for example, and you will stop saving altogether. If you want to run a marathon in July, you need to asses your physical aptitude and create a nutrition plan and exercise schedule that does not conflict with your professional life. And so on.
  • Find support and ask for help – no matter how skeptical your friends and family may appear at first, inform them that you decided to work on your particular issue and ask for their support. Find a coach or join a support group, especially if you are living in an non-supportive environment or have a history of failure. Like-minded people are more likely to understand your “struggle” and give you the support you need.
  • Monitor progress it is very very useful to have a journal in which you can write down your experience and monitor your progress. As you are trying to change your ways, you will experience a wide range of emotions. It is important to understand where your frustrations stem from or what makes you unhappy. Do not ever blame yourself for temporary set-backs, but rather prize yourself for your endurance. The journal will not only help you watch your progress and gain confidence, it will help you monitor and correct your inner talk.
  • Use props – simple devices such as "dream" boards, posters, quotable mugs or apparel will help visualize your goals and increase your chances of success.
  • Reward yourself – as you gradually progress on your path, celebrate your success. This does not mean that you have to reward yourself with a piece of chocolate cake if you manage to lose more weight than you expected. Instead, buy a sexy dress in your new size, go to a gym or a yoga class, or visit a spa where you can relax and pamper yourself. If you managed to save more money than you previously intended, go to a library or take a course and educate yourself about the financial markets. Learn how money can work for you in the future, instead of spending the surplus on something trivial.
There is nothing as sweet as success. Remember that you are the master of your life. You hold the key to your success. No one can change you and you cannot change anything unless you really want to. You may have to slow dawn and take an honest look deep into your psyche to find out where your weak spots reside. Some problems may sit deeper than you think and you may have to seek professional help. Do not try to give up before you really tried to change. Believe in yourself and be brave. You can succeed.
